This unit standard specifies the competencies required to demonstrate knowledge of soil, water, nutrient and plant interactions at introductory level. It is intended for those who work in agriculture as well as people in other occupations that work with plants. It includes:
• Describe the structure, composition and attributes of soils
• Describe soil, water and nutrient interactions
• Report key signs of nutrient deficiencies and water stress in crops
• Describe the methods of soil fertility and soil conditioning amendments and practices.
