This qualification recognizes people who have the competencies required for performing basic bricklaying and plastering tasks. It is awarded to people who have demonstrated the skills and knowledge required to perform basic bricklaying and plastering tasks, including plan and organize construction work, manufacturing bricks, using bricklaying hand tools and work in a bricklaying team; perform basic estimations, measurements and calculations; carry out leveling, build, plaster and render a straight brick wall between profiles and return corners; apply fundamental communication and numeracy competencies in the workplace; entrepreneurship skills; provide basic first aid; and occupational health and safety and demonstrate basic awareness of HIV and AIDS. This qualification is designed to be accessible and flexible. There are no entry requirements for this qualification. The main focus is on the outcomes of this qualification, not the how, when and where learning occurred. Some people applying to do this qualification may currently be competent in one or more of the unit standards and should then be given the opportunity to apply for recognition of prior learning. This qualification leads to the National Vocational Certificate in Civil and Building Services Engineering (Bricklaying and Plastering) (Level 2).
