Level 1

This unit standard specifies the competencies required to describe timber jointing
materials. This includes describing the properties of timber, describing marketing form 
of timber, identifying the types of timber defects, causes and remedies, identifying the 
types of timber diseases, causes and remedies, identifying types of wood pests, 
damages caused and preservations, applying correct methods for handling and storing 
sawn timber, identifying and describing uses of veneers and manufactured boards, and 
using of other materials.
This unit standard is intended for those who work as joiners and cabinet makers.

Install finished products
Level 1

This unit standard specifies the competencies required to carry out installation of finished products. This includes setting up and using levelling devices, and installing finished products.

Construct timber joints by hand
Level 1

This unit standard specifies the competencies required to construct timber joints by hand. This includes selecting timber joints for different applications, marking out joints, cutting and chiseling joints, applying fitting procedures, and finishing timber joints.

To provide participants with the knowledge and skills to describe the properties of timber: describe marketing form of timber: outline timber faults and defects and their causes and remedies: outline common timber diseases, pest damages, their causes and preservations: apply methods of handling and storing sawn timber: identify by-products of wood and describe the uses of other materials.

Joinery and Cabinet Making (Level 1)
Level 1

This training programme is intended to provide a course in Joinery & Cabinet Making that fosters both manual and intellectual skills. The approach to the subject which is advocated in this training programme is trainee centred. It advocates for the involvement of trainees in planning and designing their practical work. This approach encourages the acquisition of technical skills and knowledge, leading to a knowledge-based society, which is the goal of the Namibian vision 2030.

JOINERY AND CABINET MAKING LEVEL 1
Level 1

This training programme is intended to provide a course in Joinery & Cabinet Making which fosters the development of both manual and intellectual skills. The approach to the subject which is advocated in this training programme is trainee centered. It advocates for the involvement of trainees in planning and designing their practical work. This approach encourages the acquisition of technical skills and knowledge, leading to knowledge based society, which is the goal of the Namibian vision 2030.

This unit standard specifies the competencies required to manufacture timber products. This includes preparing components for manufacture of timber products, assemble timber products, and finishing timber products.

Level 1

This unit standard specifies the competencies required to work safely in a workplace environment. It includes knowledge of hazard and risk control, workplace fire safety, emergency evacuation and response and reading product rebels in a workplace. This unit standard is intended for people requiring basic knowledge of workplace health and safety to engage safely in paid employment, other forms of work and/or vocational education and training.

This unit standard specifies the competencies required to read and produce sketches and drawings. This includes describing different types of drawings, selecting drawing instruments, preparing paper and select drawing instruments, producing lines used in drawings, constructing different shapes and angles, reading and interpreting scales, signs and symbols, reading and producing freehand sketches, producing isometric drawings of simple joinery objects, and producing first angle projection drawings of simple joinery objects.

Use and maintain hand tools

This unit standard specifies the competencies required to use and maintain hand tools used in operations. This includes selecting and using hand tools, sharpen hand tools, and maintaining and storing hand tools. This unit standard is intended for those who work as joiners and cabinet makers.
