Elements and Performance Criteria


Element 1: Prepare workstation and equipment


Performance Criteria


1.1 Personal and safety equipment is selected, checked and used according to workplace
procedures.
1.2 Workplace is cleaned and set up in line with workplace specifications and occupational
health and safety procedures.
1.3 Appropriate equipment, tools and materials are selected, cleaned and checked in line
with workplace specifications.
1.4 Faults are identified, rectified, reported and recorded in line with workplace
specifications.


Element 2: Lay-up fabric


Performance Criteria


2.1 Fabric is collected and examined for flaws and quality in line with workplace
specifications.
2.2 Fabric, grain lines, selvedge and alignments are checked according to pattern and
specifications.
2.3 Width and right side of fabric is checked in line with workplace lay-out instructions.
2.4 Fabric is laid and straightened according to pattern specifications.


Element 3: Mark garment pieces


Range
Pattern markings may include but are not limited to darts, notches and drill holes.


Performance Criteria

3.1 Pattern pieces are selected, laid out on fabric and marked according to pattern
specifications.
3.2 Pattern markings are transferred and checked according to specifications.
3.3 Fabric is measured and usage is recorded.


Element 4: Cut garment pieces


Range
Garment pieces to be cut may include but are not limited to fabric, Vilene, waist band and
pockets.


Performance Criteria


4.1 Laid out fabric is cut according to pattern specifications.
4.2 Cut pieces are labelled according to pattern specifications.
4.3 Cut pieces are inspected and identified faults are rectified and reported in line with
workplace specifications.
4.4 Cut pieces are sorted and bundled according to quality standard and sewing sequence.
4.5 Work area is cleaned and prepared for the next job or operation.

Element 1: Plan and Prepare for work

Performance Criteria

1.1 Personal and safety equipment is selected, checked and used according to workplace
procedures.
1.2 Workstation and seating are set up according to production plan and occupational
health and safety practices.
1.3 Tools and equipment are identified, selected, checked, cleaned and set out according
to Job specifications.
1.4 Temperature on pressing equipment checked and set according to fabric type and
pressing operations.
1.5 Routine maintenance of tools and equipment is performed and recorded.

Element 2: Prepare and fuse garment pieces

Performance Criteria


2.1 Garment pieces are collected and faults are identified and rectified according to
workplace procedures.
2.2 Required garment pieces are fused according to workplace specifications.
2.3 Fused pieces are checked according to quality standards.

Element 3: Sew and press garment

Range
Sewing includes hand and machine techniques.
Finishing techniques may include but are not limited to attaching fasteners, button holes, hems
and trimmings.
